New Cat Available for Adoption! Meet our Newest Meow-mber, Louie

By: Alexis Balch, Mayah Echin, Mikayla Dancy, & Teagan Serink

Feline Good Café is proud to welcome a new member to our adoptable resident team! Read on to learn more about his backstory and get a sneak peek at our limited-edition Louie merch.

Louie’s Backstory:

It was a cold Wednesday night when Felix Lyon, a Whataburger associate, had been taking out the trash behind his restaurant. He heard faint cries coming from the depths of the dumpster and curiously peered inside.

“At first I thought I was hearing things, but then I double checked and then bam! There were these two stray kitties cuddled among the rubbish. I knew it was too cold for them here. It was going to snow that night, so I did what anyone would do and took them in for the night.”- Felix Lyon, Whataburger Associate

Felix settled on naming the two striped kitties Louie and Lucinda. Despite his initial surprise, he had been familiar with the two cats’ presence around the restaurant for a couple of days and often gave them leftover hamburger meat and milk. (Disclaimer: While it is a common misconception that cats love to drink milk, this is not healthy for them. Most cats are actually lactose intolerant, so we strongly discourage feeding them milk.)

“I didn’t have any cat food but wanted to make sure they didn’t go hungry” -Felix Lyon, Whataburger Associate

Despite being able to look after them for the night, Felix could not care for them in the way they both needed. Fortunately, Louie was in good health, but Lucinda was suffering from several medical issues that Felix himself could not afford on his own.

“I tried to seek help from other places, but no one was able to take them in, all the shelters were full except the kill ones…and I wasn’t going to do that” – Felix Lyon, Whataburger Associate.

After that night, Felix decided to call his sister, Mary, who works as one of our lovely baristas at Feline Good Café here in Denton. She recommended that he bring Louie and Lucinda to Feline Good Café, because we are always on the lookout for new members. As soon as Mary and the rest of our staff set eyes on the two cats, we knew we had to help.

“Lucinda clearly wasn’t in good condition, so we knew immediately that we had to take them to the vet.” – Mary Lyon, Café Team member

Once we got both kitties to the animal hospital, our veterinarian, Dr. Stokes, decided to take Lucinda in to better monitor her condition. Lucinda ended up making a full recovery a few weeks later and was spry enough to run around, happily playing with the vet’s granddaughter. Dr. Stokes later decided to adopt Lucinda, since the cat and her granddaughter had already become an inseparable pair.

Louie came to us in better shape than his sister Lucinda, and his playful demeanor immediately won us over. Last Saturday, after he finished his quarantine period, Louie officially became an adoptable member of the Feline Good team. We are proud to announce that he will be working in the café with us until he finds his forever home.

If you are interested in adopting Louie, ask a team member at our café in Denton or send an email to info@felinegood.com to learn more about our adoption process.

More about Louie:

Louie is an American shorthair cat with a paw-some personality. He has a beautiful, gray tabby coat with a pair of deep green eyes. Louie is a very social, energetic cat who loves to run around and welcome everyone he meets. Since his first shift in the Café, he has already charmed dozens of patrons with his dashing looks and playful demeanor. He fits right in at Feline Good Café, and our hearts are warmed to see Louie making fellow friends left and right.

Not to mention, he is also a heavy sleeper and will sleep anywhere and everywhere, including:

  • Anything box-shaped
  • Litterboxes
  • Patron’s laps
  • The lamp post
  • Sinks (he’s not allowed in the kitchen ones, don’t worry!)

Note: Louie takes his sleep seriously, so if you would like to see him awake and not snoring loudly, visit after 7 pm.

Louie’s Yarn Obsession:

Louie is in love with yarn, especially green yarn, which is his favorite color. He chases after yarn balls constantly and encourages the other cats to do the same. It’s Louie and his green yarn against the world! You can purr-chase our custom Louie merch featuring his prized possession in person or on our website.

BFF: Vasha

Louie is a very outgoing kitty, and he’s already made friends with some of our other residents. His best friend is Vasha, a fellow yarn afficionado and former street cat. Like Louie, she is also quite the napper, and you can often find them snuggled together, snoozing in the sun.
