5 Cat-Friendly Dessert Recipes for Valentine’s Day

1. Jerky Hearts Recipe by Anthem Pet Hospital

Ingredients & Appliances: 

  • 3.5 ounces of liver 
  • ½ cup of cornstarch (with extra for mixing) 
  • Olive or Canola Oil 
  • Food processor/blender 
  • If you do not have a blender manual mincing the meat 
  • Small, heart-shaped cookie cutter 
  • If you do not have a heart shaped cookie cutter, try your best to form a heart! Get creative! 
  • Basting brush (optional) 

Directions: 

  1. Preheat oven to 350oF. 
  1. Line a baking tray with baking paper. 
  1. Use basting brush to apply a layer of oil to the tray. 
  1. Chop liver. 
  1. Place liver in food processor or manually mice with the cornstarch. 
  1. Blend until mixture is smooth, dough-like consistency (add extra cornstarch if needed). 
  1. Roll the liver mixture onto a floured surface.  
  1. Flour your hands, then press mixture into a 1-centimeter-thick layer. 
  1. Use cookie cutter to cut layer into hearts. 
  1. Serve to your furry companion!  

2. Strawberry and Yogurt Love Bites by Waggle 

Maybe this Valentine’s Day you want to give a chilly treat to furry campion! This Strawberry and Yogurt Love Bites recipe by Waggle is a great way to chill out this Valentine’s Day. 

Ingredients & Appliances: 

  • 1 cup plain Greek yogurt (no added sugar or sweeteners) 
  • ½ cup fresh strawberries, chopped 
  • 1 tablespoon honey (optional) 
  • Heart-shaped silicone molds or an ice cube tray 
  • Blender or other type of food mixer 

Directions:

Ingredients: 

  • 1/2 cup shredded low-fat cheese 
  • 2 tablespoons dried catnip 
  • 1 egg 
  • 1/4 cup oat flour 
  • 1 tablespoon nutritional yeast 

Directions: 

  1. Once you have gathered your ingredients, grab a bowl and let’s get mixin’! 
  1. Pour shredded low-fat cheese and oat flour into the bowl. 
  1. Add the egg, dried catnip, and nutritional yeast. 
  1. Stir ingredients until egg and flour are fully mixed into the batter. 
  1. Form the batter into various shapes (using either cookie cutters or your hands, whichever you purr-fer!)

Ingredients & Appliances (makes 200 cat treats): 

  • 1 cup of rolled oats 
  • 3 tablespoons unsweetened, low-moisture, dried cranberries 
  • 4 ounces cooked, plain chicken (no salt or seasoning added), chopped small 
  • 2 and 1/2 teaspoon olive oil 
  • 1 tablespoon dried catnip 
  • 1 large egg 
  • A food processor 

Instructions: 

  1. Preheat oven to 350° F. 
  1. Place the oats in a food processor and whip until you have a flour.  
  1. Add the dried cranberries and whip again until they are ground fine.  
  1. Add the remaining ingredients to the food processor and whip until well combined. Turn it out into a bowl. 
  1. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper. 
  1. Measure 1/4 teaspoon-sized portions. Roll each portion into a ball and press flat using your finger. (You can even form them into cute little hearts or other shapes if wanted!) Line up evenly on the prepared baking sheets. 
  1. Slide into preheated oven and bake for 15-17 minutes, or until golden and dried out on the top. Allow to cool completely. 
  1. Once cool, treat your kitty! Store completely cooled treats in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.

  • Food processor 

Ingredients  

  • Canned tuna 
  • Whole wheat flour 
  • Olive oil 
  • Egg 

Instructions 

  1. Add the canned tuna to a food processor. Pulse until tuna is chopped finely. 
  1. Grab a large bowl and combine chopped tuna, flour, and egg. Mix until combined. 
  1. Next add olive oil and stir until fully mixed 
  1. Grab the mixture and form it into approximately 1-inch balls. (You can also form them into different shapes like hearts to suit the occasion!) 
  1. Place the balls or shapes onto a lined baking sheet. Using a fork to place the tines on the dough. 
  1. Lastly, serve to your feline friend
